Why do Americans like Bobby Fischer?

Yes (unfortunately though it's when I crash headfirst into something).

Very Good reply Eric!  I totally agree! You are one of the few that  post here  has real meaning, and not personal prejudice attacks against a great man! Thank you!

 He was a great chessplayer.

When he was visiting Larry Evan's house, after swimming in the pool he threw his wet bathing suit onto a dictionary.

Personally, he seemed quite the jerk.

Dear Trysts, Bobby was known to give $20.00 tips to the bar maid, you might want to think your thought over again! Cool

He never had $20.00 to give to anyone(except his church-thing)Laughing

I just made that up, just wanted to hear from my sweet heartEmbarassed But I would give you that tip!  Just came from Deadwood casino, while there I bought a beer, cost $3.50. and I gave the girl $4.00. She could keep the change and she looked at me like that was not enough, (I usually give a buck)?  Also the machines where so tight, may never go back to that place again! I will say she was very attractive and maybe  she thought she deserved more for looks?

Looks can be misinterpreted. Wink

Many Americans still love/admire Jane Fonda and she is far worse than Fischer imo .

If you mean because she married Ted Turner, then maybe you're right.

Apparently you arent aware of what she actually did. It was far more/worse than just protesting the war.

Interesting, didn't know about any of that.

I'm glad there is no negativity on chess.com

She was guilty of toxic innocence regarding Vietnamese treatment of American POWs.  Toxic innocence regarding maltreatment of others of course being an American staple.

corrijean

Isn't she a born again Christian or something like that, now?

Reb, Fischer said he wanted to exterminate the Jews. He laughed at the sight of people burning to death. Jane Fonda sat on an anti-aircraft weapon and they took a picture of her. Absurd comparison.

dannyhume

No, but Jane Fonda was not good at chess. Fischer could probably beat her even if he gave her knight odds.

Hilarious! You may have taken a picture of Reb's reasoning.

Yeah, but that is 1527 in this millenium, which is about the equivalent of 2427 in 1972, given all the develpoments in theory, computers, engines, and all.
