Why Do People Disconnect or Let Time Run out When Losing

I am curious as to why people let time run out or disconnect when losing. I really want to hear from those of you that do it, not just commentary on how annoying it is. I almost let time run out once after blundering a piece and obviously losing when my opponent started rubbing it in (smack talking). Other that that, why not just resign and try again? There's no reason to be a baby.
