why do people hate daily games?

In my opinion, I don't like them because of a few reasons. I like my games to be quick. & if they are long compared to my normal games, I seem to forget the move that I was going to play. Daily games are great for analyzing. Although not helpful for quick thinking tactics and overall chess skills. I have also found that people can use outside sources, (which is allows as long as it is not an engine) & I dislike that.
Like ThomastheGM said they like to finish the game as fast as possible on the same day and in daily the long time control interrupts their train of thought although they could use the "notes" feature to remember stuff.
A lot players hate the fact you can use opening books and game databases during the game.

It’s understandable to like them, especially in your position of not having enough time. I just don’t find them fun

I think their a great way to play chess without having to sacrifice... too much time of your day, but I understand that some people don't like it.

I don’t hate daily, I just don’t agree with the use of engines, analysis, books, written materials….etc
I put more value in being able to sit down and perform under time pressure in one sitting.

Unless chess.com publishes the stats for daily games vs other variations, then no one really knows if daily games are "hated" ( whatever tha actually means.) There is no reason to assume that daily games are unpopular. My guess is a fairly large sub-set of players at chess.com play daily games.
It's best to join a club if you want to play daily and it's definitely possible to get over 1900 maybe even 2000 daily without databases and opening books if you choose openings where they can't play too many gambits against you.

I love daily games, run tournaments and a club based around only daily games. Its working ok for me. Time can be a huge problem for me.

One point is that Blitz and Bullet players sometimes feel that many people take slow chess too seriously and fast chess not seriously enough.
So the "Daily is not REAL chess!" movement started.

It really is its own kind of chess. It becomes a puzzle game if your opponent goes off book too early. Or if there's only one master game and your opponent moves his own move. You look at the master game and sort out why the guy there didn't make that move. I like it, but its definitely not OTB. Hell rapid isnt OTB. I'd get crushed in an OTB game just from seeing in 3D instead of 2D alone

I much prefer long time controls (classical - if rapid, then at least 30 minutes) but daily is a bit too disjointed for me. I prefer to be playing the whole game at one go, rather than having to wait until the next day. I used to play daily when I previously joined and had another user name, but now I'm only playing one game in this format. I would play daily again but would prefer to do so with friends (people who I don't see often but are friends outside chess.com) as a means of keeping in touch.

With my work schedule, I really enjoy it. I think if you check the rules, you can’t use search engines, and I don’t think the people I’ve played used any materials specifically related to the game at hand. I don’t. I have only about 30 games on chess.com, all daily, under my belt. I don’t have much experience. I have been picking up about 50 points per month since late October, where I bottom out at 662. Now I am approaching 1,000, which is one goal. I am in no hurry though, just enjoy playing the daily games.
