In lower elos, you can be 100% sure that your opponent will screw up. Even if they don't, you must give one last stand against your opponent. If you fail than you can resign as there is nothing you can do. Here is a VERY WEIRD game of my trash 800 elo that shows this:

I am easily losing, but I give multiple mate threats that black has to respond to.

Take it as an oportunity to promote a whole barn of horsies and humilliate your opponent. I like to delay the mate in one, let the time run out, prepare myself a tea or a coffee, and when I have one second left, then I checkmate. It's very funny to see your opponent reactions. Either your opponent will choose to finally take de desicion that never makes and resign, noticing that you're trolling him delaying the mate, or in the other hand, your opponent may decide to write angry and funny stuff in the chat,. I tell you, if winning the game was not enough, you can still have another win by trolling your opponent, so take the opportunity happy.png

I believe this is against Chess.com's fair play policies.

For me I’m not at a super high rating, and people will make many mistakes. Especially when I have a lot of time and they’ve been making lots of mistakes throughout the game I won’t resign. You’d be surprised the amount of times someone has put me in stalemate with a king and queen. Quite sad.

People do not resign so they can flag you.
