I send chat when it is on my time. I guess it's similar in OTB matches. Most guys are really either trying to concentrate or is toggling between the site and their engines.

Because I'm busy playing chess ? You can chat all you want during a game, I will probably not even notice.

People usually don’t talk during a chess game because the game requires deep concentration and strategic thinking. Talking can be distracting for both players and may cause them to lose focus on their moves.

Here are a few specific reasons why players stay silent:

Concentration – Chess involves planning multiple moves ahead, analyzing different possibilities, and predicting the opponent's strategy. Any distractions can lead to mistakes.
Respect for the opponent – Staying silent shows sportsmanship and allows both players to focus without unnecessary interruptions.
Avoiding giving away information – Speaking might unintentionally reveal a player’s thoughts, emotions, or strategy, which could give the opponent an advantage.
Traditional etiquette – Chess has a long history, and silence during games is a widely accepted norm, especially in serious matches and tournaments.
That said, in casual games, people do sometimes chat, especially if they’re playing for fun rather than competition!
