It's something which has been part of the animal brain for 100's of millions of years. You'll find it difficult to find reasons without looking at it from the evolutionary perspective.

Why do you ask someone to be their friend? I'm asking this because I start chatting with people, and I get lots of friend requests... Why?? Is it because you can see that I'm social and like chatting?? Like, I like friends but I just have that question
