Also because there is a near infinite amount of possibilities then you really have to understand the concepts. You can't just learn to play well overnight.

Trying different variants I would say that Chess is an extremely well
designed game. For example the 8x8 board ensures that on average N
and B are tradable and this add dynamism to the game. Then the Q is a
strong piece but not too strong like the Amazon. The board is big
enough to make the game reasonably complex but small enough to ensure
that the pace of the game is not too slow etc.
I adore this game, perhaps one of the most beautiful in history, it is perfection, art, strategy, warfare and history all rolled into one. I have a deep love for the game, but alas, I am quite, quite horrible at it.

One way to enjoy chess for sure is not to be over concerned about how high you ratings are and to move up even higher. Because like all things in life there are some that excel at this game more then others, just playing this game at your level, and enjoying it at your level will keep you playing. There is no such thing as "I suck", "I am stupid at chess", Just the idiot that makes that comment directed at some one that plays chess.
I started liking chess when I was 8. My father was playing with one of his friends and I was watching them play. I was amazed at the site of a pawn capturing another, so I took a pawn and captured the king
( Of course I didn't know chess at that time!) After the game my dad taught me how to move the pieces. That's how i knew of chess. I am trying hard to get better but I still make blunders.
One of the things that really interested me about chess is the history of it and its accessibility. Anyone with a chess book or computer and a chess set and board can watch any great games at their own pace and see exactly what was played and view analysis of what was played and why.
Man, I just like playing the game.
Its a tug of war between two powers...Victory is only possible, because we differ...
If you differ from your oponent, it mean two things. Either you win, or you loose...
If you loose more than what you win, then it mean one of two things...Either you are very bad at chess, or you are the number two chess player in the world

Because you can't physically beat someone using chess to beat them intellectually is the next best thing. As my band teacher said it is sophisticated killing or something like that. If people have disabilities and they can't play sports they might enjoy chess or if people wanted a game that can completely make you forget your troubles and have fun. I enjoy it because of the deep thinking process and problem solving that i get to use which I don't get to use often outside of chess.

I appreciate the Accountability the game requires of yourself...if a player makes a mistake or blunder you can only blame yourself...!!!!
Its a true test of mental warfare which I as a former Marine and in my current profession truly appreciate...!!!

At 65 memory impairment has become a real issue in my daily life. It seems that so many of the “Brain Game” apps offered are just simply idiotic. I have no use for games where I’m supposed to remember how many triangles appeared and were they baby blue or chartreuse? I find chess both mentally challenging and a lot of fun. I really hadn’t played the game in well over 40 years, but slowly and surely its coming back! My picture is Bill Hicks, who was one of the greatest standup comics of all time.
Chess is a great game with a multitude of combinations. The variety of pieces makes the game very interesting and further more adds more possibilities regarding the opening, middle game and endgame. I have had two (regretable) periods where I got so caught up in Tetris that I stopped playing Chess because of the fast-paced movement. In Tetris you do have ideas of formulating attacks and there is strategy but I would have to say the majority of the game is relied in speed. Chess on the other hand is sequential and therefore you have to wait for your opponent. Every move counts and I would say the majority of the game is battled in the mind (through variations). I remember hearing something (in reference I believe to samurai fights) that the fight between two masters is decided in an instant. Like in chess we are not going to see all the unnecessary sword clashing, the real battle is in the mind.
I absolutely agree with that. Chess is an art. There are probably billions of positions that can occur.
