Anyone can become a grandmaster if they just devote an hour per day for a year or so. But i just love Frazier reruns, and cannot find the time!
Yeah if they're Capablanca. Only an hour a day for a year will get most people up to class D probably.

Because GrandMaster is just a DREAM, And I never take this dream seriously. Lack of motivation in short.
Dreaming is the second leading cause of losing behind carelessness.

That actually sounds about right.
Because, I was raised a poor black child...

The Jerk :-)
Because I care more about my family and my job than chess. Chess is a great game ... but it isn't my life!
I think it is a stimulating, thought provoking question. At the moment I am working on other things and so play chess as recreation.
Back in the old Soviet Union it was worth the effort to become a Grandmaster. Now, unless you write and teach on top of it, I doubt you make a ton of money unless you are one of the top 2-3 players. I think the Soviets used to take care of their top chess players with nice houses, drivers, travel to tournaments, etc. Obviously the question at the start of this thread is ridiculous anyway, but if you can time travel back to communist Russia I seriously think you should consider becoming a Grandmaster. In America, its more profitable to be Grandmaster Flash.
How sad is it that Russia supports chess...and as you stated takes care of there chess players. Here in the USA we actually talk about things like teaching ebonics...and then wonder why we are falling behind the rest of the world.

Is it 1994 already? If we're going back to the early 90's, I want to be Grandmaster B.
The same reason why I did not become a rockstar:
Talent
Dedication
Started too late
Becoming a GM is serious stuff, you could play all your life and you will still not get there.
