I have to agree with Flowers, it is fun. Chess is something one can play with friends. Unfortunately for me, none of my friends play chess. (:

Yeah, I too am hardly trying.
I play because it makes my muscles big and improves my chances with the ladies.

Why do I play chess... lol very easy for me to answer. I play for the women, the money, and the renown ;) LOL as if... eh? No, I play chess because it challenges my mind.
I think it's the most fun mental workout there is. If computer games were as mentally demanding as chess I probably wouldn't play chess.

I work, train and play in chess diligently because it is recreating a whole new brain inside of my skull. This allows me to deal with things differently. I become more efficient. My engagement with all around me is stepped up to enhanced realms of being. I relate to things in a more multi dimensional way.

Lmao.. Some of these posts are so funny! I play because smart people play chess! It's so amusing watching them plot against me!

Why not? Seriously, I remember seeing a chessboard and rules in a hardback copy of Hoyle's book of games. That was when I was in 7th grade or so. I am now 50+ and I still enjoy the game. And, like the rest here, I am still striving to improve my game.

I play chess because it stops my rusty 40+ brain from getting any rustier - and because I love the game even though I'll never get much better (just see some of my recent losses!).
