why does chess exist???

like, why does chess exist because like all you do is move pieces  on your turn and capture the other teams pieces and get the other dudes king in checkmate. so does anybody even get what i'm saying??

because its a popular game and it has rules, and people are competitive they want to prove they have the best understanding of something, weve played games for thousands of years

You can simplify everything to make it sound boring, just like llama said. Such as - "Why do burgers even exist, it is just 2 round bread with random stuffing including even vegetables!!". While to an alien who knows nothing of burgers, it might sound like an boring food, the majority of humanity would disagree with this statement of mine. The same way, while to a new chess player it might sound boring, to an hobbyist, it's pure art.
