I think that your opponent does not want to lose, as that would be a much worse rating drop than the gain for his win. That appeasement that he or she has a higher chance to win is gone when the games are close.

This logic only really makes sense if the person rejecting a rematch is just going to retire from online chess after that initial game.

If I am planning to play another game, I'll play a new opponent and there is at least as much chance that they will be better than the person I just rejected a rematch from and thus that I will lose against them anyway.  The 'logic' makes no sense.

with millions of people to play against I assume anyone wanting a rematch is a sore loser

I can always plan on people at Chess.com to give rude, sarcastic and demeaning remarks to a valid question.  And it's usually the same users.

That's not a valid question at least for 2 reasons: 1) rematches have been discussed to death, search will give you all possible reasons; 2) it's impossible to answer why no one accept his rematches because every player can only speak for himself.

Also post #2 by notmtwain shows that the title claim is simply wrong - there are players who give  rematches to AgentW10.

post 10 , well said , sometimes life gets in the way of chess and means there isn't time for a rematch

Of course it's a valid response.  Some people have given reasons why they don't accept rematches while others have given response such as the author of the question being a "sore loser".  If you look at various threads you will find responses that are not helpful but instead are either sarcastic or demeaning to the author.  I'm only suggesting that if you can't provide a helpful answer don't respond.

I think that stupid and ignorant questions deserve to be answered sarcastically.

Is there anything better (chess wise) than shooting shooting off a bunch of rapids against an equal foe?

For me playing one rapid game, then analysing it, then taking a break is better.

uri65,

You're just validating my point, being respectful to others is not that hard.  To each his own, I guess that's the chance you take when posting on a message board.

perhaps cc could allow a feature in their custom game settings in live that asks for any responding challenger to play best of 3 /5 /7 etc ,,,ive seen this option on other sites , and on accepting those challenges you know that you will get a rematch whether you win draw or lose

I’ll play you twice 😀

apart from revenge I honestly can't imagine another reason for a rematch when there are literally THOUSANDS of similarly ranked players to play against.  sorry if that seems offensive to you

Sorry if I believe people should be polite.  Like I said it doesn't really matter to me.  I just find it offensive that people will write whatever they feel like when they are sitting behind a keyboard but I can guarantee they would never say it directly to someone.

And Unbelievable111, please know what you are talking about before you speak, I am rarely on the message boards.

chess ,,,, a game that allows you to rip opponents in two or have the same done to you , but still im glad that the combatants greet each other and after applaud the winner , doesn't always go like that in the keyboard warrior age , but it should

was I impolite or are you talking about someone else ?

Pryder

Donald Trump probably ?!

irish65

Natarka,

I was talking about someone else, had nothing to do with you.  Sorry if there was a mix up in the conversation.  Nothing against you.

Pryder

Why should he believe you about that ?
