If someone wants to chat in a 15 min or 30 min game, I'll chat.

When I want to play chess I come here, if I want a chat I mostly go elsewhere.

I think its pretty sad no one talks, I make an effort to say good game after every match, never get replies. Bad sportsmanship and might as well play against an AI. The chess community is as bas as the Fifa community

I doubt it's that bad.

I have no issue with most people on this site and used to be happy to say good game but I decided to disable chat after someone gave me abuse for not resigning when he wanted me to. Ever since then I've had a better experience as I can just concentrate on the game without having to read rubbish from a small number of users. I'm more than happy to engage with someone with personal messages afterwards (providing it's friendly) but I would rather not during the game. It's just down to personal preference.

Thou art, I daresay, the second best philosopher of this day, behind me.

I mainly play on mobile browser, there's no notification if the opposite player tried to chat and I can't see the board and the chat box at the same time, so often I don't notice their chat until the match is over.

Additionally, as I'm still a beginner, the default 10 minutes game is a pretty tight timing for a game for me. I don't have enough time to type replies and think at the same time and still finish the game. While there are definitely games that finished quickly, quite a fair bit of my 10 minutes games ends in timeout, so wasting a minute or so typing replies is a huge disadvantage, especially when I know that most random match opponents won't talk back or even read anything I write anyway.

Maybe I'll have more chances to chat with a 30 minutes game or daily games, but I don't think I have the patience for a game that runs that long, so I hadn't played them much.

I find it annoying when my opponent tries to talk during a match sometimes. If It's a long match, It's ok. But when I have 3 minutes left, I don't have time to respond to your message. I need to think. That being said, I love when me and my opponent talk after a match. That being said, that's just my opinion.

I'm playing a lot of 20 min rapid at the moment. I find it hard to respond during a game (very few chat anyway during a rapid game) they might send a shocked/funny face maybe and I always respond out of politeness. Afterwards, chess.com have a hint button 'was such-and-such a good sport?' I got into the habit of giving my opponent the thumbs up and clicking 'good game', but no one ever responds so I stopped doing it. Also, I recently won a game where I had 25 seconds left on the clock and my opponent (who was higher-rated and winning) had eleven minutes. I was delighted, but all opponents seem to leave the chat room instantly. But I admit there are times I don't want to exchange views either. Sometimes its frustration or just a time issue. But i take the point without a little human interaction is sometimes feels like playing a computer. I much rather play people and overall, chess.com gets a big 'thumbs up' from me. I'm one of these guys who went back playing chess after a forty year absence. I almost never get the opportunity to play Over-the-table games and I've never been in a physical tournament. Maybe someday (If I don't die first happy.png ) So, I little more interaction at the end of rapid games would be nice. If it was only a thumbup.png; cheers.

If it's a rapid game, and my opponent chats to me while we are still playing, I'm not likely to respond because:

1). I'm on focus mode, so I can't see the chat

2). I don't want to get distracted.

After the game, it depends on my mood whether I say GG or say nothing. If I win, I 75% of the time might say gg but if I lost and I'm still in a good mood I might say gg.

I never say anything anymore cause there are times where you get ripped after saying gg for being sarcastic, even if it was not. Better off to just not say anything
