Carlsen didn't qualify: he didn't lose the last championship, he didn't participate in the World Cup or Grand Prix, and the organizer didn't nominate him.
But the 3 highest rated players also qualify, right?

There were two candidates who qualified by rating (Aronian and Karjakin), but they had to participate in either the World Cup or Grand Prix.
So Carlsen can't win them all? I think Carlsen should be allowed to defend both the Candidates and World Championship titles he earned in 2013. Why did they give the wildcard to Svidler (much weaker) instead of Carlsen, if Carlsen somehow didn't manage to qualify officially?
