I have not, but I do reason with you. Thats totally wrong to do that. Even creating a different account so that you can boost up your points is wrong.
Why fake a low rating to win ??

well me personally, my rating floats from high 1500 to high 1600 and i join a 1600 and up chess.com tourney and it automatically put me in the 1400 to 1600 tourny because i was at 1599 when that tourney started. But i didnt dominate the tourney lol but i did good

perhaps she lost a bunch on time.
Impossible to lose on time, they were all on line games with 3 days to make a move and she lost them all in a 24 hr period, some she made 6 or 7 moves and then resigned even though she was winning.............

I've had a couple tourneys like this, although the only one I did check had only joined chess.com recently (relative to the tournament) and as such had only played a few games.
My rating also fluctuates between1600 and 1750 sometimes exceeded those numbers on both sides.
I hope the situation was unintentional, giving people the benefit of the doubt, but there are people like that. Some of those have learned to do so in real life where there is a real prize on the line.

how would you feel about naming names?
I'm not sure what the reason would be for "naming names" ........this isn't about sour grapes or vengence, I just wanted to get the situation out there for discussion and to add awareness that this type of "abuse" goes on. I'm also curious as to how often this happens and am looking for input from others with similar stories........:)

If you actually lose a game and your rating drops, that understandable, but losing 16 games is not right. Technically, it is not considered cheating, but it still should not happen. Unfortunately, this probably happens alot in tourneys

there is absolutley no doubt in my mind that she intentionally manipulated her ratings down..........I am the first one to always give the benefit of doubt to people, but in this particular situation it was pretty clear what really went down........it's pathetic........like you say, there was no prize on the line, other than personal satisfaction and how can you get that when you cheat ??

You can definitly get satisfaction from this (no offense). This person might just want to take the fun out of stuff for other people.

My rating is 1665 or so and I joined a tourny that strats 11/1 when my rating was below 1600 I have won games bringing my rating up to what I think is too high. ie i'm about to lose some games to higher players and this would bring my rating back down. i'm thinking of resinging the games it looks like i will lose any before 11/1 to stay under 1600. what do u gays think of that?
When you know you're going to be away for awhile, it's not uncommon to clear out your games. A friend I play as often as I can, dropped 500 points in a day because he's out of vacation time... As to the situation you described, it does seem backwards. I 'd like to think that I play stronger than I'm rated, but I try to play against the highest possible, or try to squeak into the next higher tourny bracket.

Sad but true..........

Well I just joined a couple of weeks ago, but I think that you should never quit a game no mater how bad the situation gets. It is not far for the other player who has worked hard to win a game.

I always felt that way until I got to play a Master. One of the best lessons: When to resign...
Maybe your right, but thats just me!

this behaivor makes as much sense as resigning and not stopping once you cross 1400. maybe she was hoping to get in the sub-1200 category to sweep the tourney and gave up on it.
maybe she was using computer assistance and had an epiphany and new respect for the game.... and felt like she must resign all assisted games.
maybe... chess.com is destroying her ability to get any work done which is affecting her personal life. she began to mass resign in a desparate attempt to rid herself of this horrible addiction... But, the calling of the pawns.... the loss sleep.... the emptyness of a cyberchessless life drew her back and showed her who the boss was in this relationship.
Has this happened to anyone else ? I entered a recent tournament and was placed in a 1201-1400 group. One of the players whom I won't name entered the group with a rating of 1219 ( the lowest in the group ) .
Quite quickly into the match I realized she was much stronger than a 1219 and she proceeded to beat me hands down in both games. I found the overwhelming strength of her game to be a bit odd so I decided to check out her history.
I found her rating was already up to 1627, only a week after starting the tournament !
About a week later I noticed she had lost 16 consecutive games in 24hrs to get her rating back down to a 1232. This is obviously a direct manipulation of her own ratings in order to qualify for tournaments at a lower rating than she actually is !
Why would anyone do this ?
How can it be fun to "beat up" on a group of players who play at a much lower level than yourself ?
Obsessed with winning ? Obsessed with power ? Bored ? What is it ?
Anyway, she ruined the tournament for me............it's too bad, has anyone else had a similar situation ?
