Not true, can't select Russian flag.

Sorry for the late comment, I'm indonesian, well as most of you probably already know, indonesians are known to be friendly, but that's irl, most indonesians on internet are the exact opposite. They can be very toxic, and in games (mostly war games like, mobile legends and free fire (the most popular game on indonesia)) there are lots of trolls, about these trolls idk why they do that, they probably just see games as "games" and didn't take it seriously so they just trolling it, honestly it really annoying. Hope my comment answers your question :)

Thank you, @TyasNajmee for giving us a glimpse into the 🇮🇩 culture. I feel that many w/ that flag are cheaters; Gotham Chess called one out; Eric Hansen called one out; comments admitted a culture of cheating there… When will Chess.com step up their cheat detection?

I bumped into your post by googling the exact same thing. I was also wondering why it is always the indonesians that are that toxic. They always struggle to beat me, but the second they have an advantage start writing stuff like "noob" "looser", etc. I'm mot really mad, but it's definitely frustrating to know that they go through life with that attitude. Really disgusting people.

Avatar of ok_whanever

Sorry as an Indonesian.... they supposed to be friendly at all.... BUT SOO DIFFERENT IN INTERNET. They not gonna think it's will make a bad looking attitude for our country :(

Probably because with a high number of population, the rotten apple will become more noticeable. Usually, I get toxic players from india, but there's also really nice people coming from there, so at the end of the day, it's just statistic and a lot of assumptions.

well, this is my uh, 7th account, the 6th is the one that post this, yeah, they still toxic as chernobyl roof after the explosion, switched to lichess, came back and the first cheater I met was a indonesian, the reasons i know he is cheating, 12 seconds on every move, i proof it by blunder a knight and he take uh, dozen of seconds to take it in a compelete lost position for white as well as a long stall between move from very fast to very consistant. also, switched to lichess if you want less toxicity and to study chess better.

Avatar of Grindingforover2000

god damn it, they still play in a nasty way, from 800 to 1700, yeah my lichess positional knowlegde does nothing when compared to all the trick indonesian chess player use to be honest, damn, 1 mistake and i gone, either i met a ton of stockfish user or like 1400 here are just like 1200 in position and GM at tactic lol

I get what you mean. Chess.com should add a feature to filter by those kinds of nations. You shouldn't be forced to put up with awful players. For the time being, just block and report or run the clock out on them when you're paired. Sorry I don't have a better answer.

I submit that the OPs premise is flawed, given that the two Indonesian-flagged posters here have both been kind in spite of being stereotyped in a bigoted manner.

It’s ok to call out the obvious…if a large group of people from a certain location are engaging or acting in certain way…it’s human and normal to observe, learn and proceed as needed. Ignoring these situations is ignorant and foolish. To turn it into a racist bigotry argument is also lame and not needed…if a large group of chess.com players are sharing their unfortunate experiences playing players from a certain location…maybe it should be looked into?🤷🏽‍♂️. OR….if I may borrow your logic for a second…somehow someway a bunch of racist chess.com players have all methodically grouped together all incognito and such that all hate a particular countries players for no other reason as to spread bigotry and hate. Has nothing to do with the same common complaint either…it’s bigotry bro…that’s it…

Yes, it's bigotry and stereotyping. It is, in fact, the very definition of stereotyping. Your example is misguided and, well, ignorant of statistics and social dynamics. Of course, when one poster comes out and says X group of people doing Y or have Z trait, the small minority of people that agree tend to speak up, too. For people that think the way you do, this translates in your head to "aha, everyone must feel this way, they just aren't posting". Instead, it's just a thread where people that have this particular opinion commiserate/complain. This is a form of confirmation bias.

Chess.com will never implement such an option, so there's no point in waiting for it.

The two Indonesians I have met on here are very respectful and nice people just sayin, and I have nothing to go with Indonesia whatsoever.
I also do have interactions with a specific country that seems disproportionately rude, but I know it’s all just random and I’m not the kind of person to bring that up on a chess forum. I wrote a very long essay on the dangers of stereotypes a year or two ago, and since then I have tried to not let them influence me. I’m not letting the tiny sample of the few random humans that I have interacted with influence how I define an entire nation.
