Why is Alexander Grischuk so overlooked?

OK, maybe all the time is a slight exaggeration. But in the past couple of months Caruana, Grischuk and now Giri all broke 2800. Considering that there's only been a, um, handful in the past, in comparison it feels like it's happening all the time.

Grischuk is making a comeback, guys! He's risen to #11 in the live rankings, and surpassed Karjakin as the #2 Russian player.

Grischuk has had a really good month! He's gone undefeated in 13 games against almost all +2700 strength opposition and beat Yu Yangyi (2753) 2-0-2 in a match.

I'm not sure, but I don't think he's had a loss in classical time controls yet this year.

I just checked on Chessgames, and if I'm counting correctly, he has had 11 wins and no losses in 37 classical games in 2017 (Chessgames doesn't have games from the Yu Yangyi match yet, but I added them to my total).

A good forum.  And a GM I follow with great regard for the London System.

Macer, take a moment and count the number of people who have broken 2800 FIDE, all time.

Here's a hint, you won't even need to use both of your thumbs.

Since I wrote that, we are now up to 14 players who have broken 2800 in classical chess time controls. Grishcuk is #12 all time with a personal best of 2813.6, and currently ranked #11 in the world with a 2769 rating.

Grisch doesn't take a salary from Russian Chess Fed so he can be with family and pick and choose his tournaments

Nice one. Thanks... :-)

Carlsen isn’t overlooking Grischuk. He considers Grischuk one of his main rivals in this week’s rapid and blitz tournaments!

In Dan Heisman's book ("A Guide to Chess Improvement") he is asked, "Who are the best fast players in the world?".  His answer, "The best slow players"!

Bobby Fischer said the same thing...... To much preperation and study with computers and memorization and no over the board brilliancy or intuition. I think this makes Grischuk completely awesome as he wants a version of chess that relies solely on instinct and forethought

Grischuk has said that he wants to kill classical chess--hence his nickname "the undertaker."  Why would you promote someone who wants to end your sport?

That sounds like a nickname you gave him. I've never heard anyone call him that.
