Why is poker cool but chess is not?

The concept behind poker is somewhat romantic in itself. The premise of playing against the odds and coming out financially compensated. The rules are easy enough to grasp and one can immediately appreciate good play since it is directly correlated with ones' monetary performance. Chess , however, is a game of perception. That being said, one must reach a certain level of comprehension before they can begin to grasp the beauty of the game. To a novice , the game is merely a set of sequential attempts to outmaneuver and outwit the other player. However, to very strong player, the moves tell a story. They directly communicate ideas that take great foresight and understanding to achieve. The game is like a language. That being said, it is to be acknowledged that beautiful linguistic prose is most savored by the individual that shows enough competence to appreciate its intrinsic beauty.

Poker is vulgar. And vulgarity is never 'cool'.

i can make $150 per hour on average playing $1-$2 no limit hold em

i can't do that in a chess tournament.

even if i were a GM and played in the world open and won the first prize.  I still would not be earning $150 /hr considering all the time investing traveling, playing, and actually being at the site (staying in the hotel) etc.

Poker is not cool. If you are a poker player, even a good one, unless you are making A LOT of money people will look at you as they'd look at someone addicted to slot machines. At least with Chess you are always going to be viewed as someone intelligent.

Fortunately, we have the chess.com forums to dispel that myth.

I personally prefer chess over poker but each to their own.

With poker, you're not just playing against the cards, you're playing against other people. There's bluffing, reading people's body language, and trying to figure out what your opponents are thinking. It's a lot more dynamic and unpredictable than chess, where you're just playing against the board. If you're into poker, you should check out Jackpot City Casino. They've got a ton of different poker games, from Texas Hold'em to Omaha, and they've got a solid no deposit bonus, so you can try it out without risking any cash. Check out their review on https://www.nodepositfriend.com/spin-casino-review/ for more deets.
