Why Knight move L shape?

do you ever think, why Knight move L shape? and why Knight the only pieces can jump other pieces? I know if that a rule in chess but, I still kinda confused why Knight move L and can jump over the pieces. Let's talking about it

The knight’s L-shape movement was created centuries ago (possibly over a thousand years) to give it unique tactical power.
