Why more and more people are attracted to chess now a days? Opinions welcome!

I think Covid - 19 pandemic is one of the reasons for its popularity. There are many other reasons too.

A lot of people knew the rules of chess, were stuck at home, and started looking for something to do. The Queen’s Gambit sparked new interest.
This will all likely die down once people are able to more freely socialize, but hopefully many will stick around.

Magnus, Covid, The Queen's Gambit, dedicated marketing, Hikaru, Feingold and more.
Yes, Exactly! What you said is absolutely correct.

Whether shine or rain people can play chess while being at home. All they need is a computer or smart phone and an internet connection. So, as you said many will continue their chess journey.

Temporary favor perhaps.
At least 1/3 of who are playing chess now will continue their chess games after the Covid- 19 pandemic is over. I think so.

idk just getting child nostalgia and wanting to play a few games. The news coverage and stuff like streamers and yters certainly help bring attention to the game.
What you said is also another reason.

To hope is without charge.

More people appear to be attracted right now because of the huge sudden development of chess streaming on twitch. big names like Hikaru and xQc are pushing the game a lot, so there is a lot of buzz about chess at the moment. Compounded on top of that is the covid situation, and it amplifies these events.
Plus the covid situation has caused tournaments to be online, which makes it easier to stream and share to others. on top of that plenty of new tournaments and events are taking place, like the recent skilling open.
In reality chess will probably drop in popularity again in a couple months after all the new players get bored of the game because they only got into it since their favourite streamer played it, and will move on. On another note chess has been growing in general for the last couple decades slowly but steadily. The sudden increase chess is seeing now will stagnate in less than a year.

The internet is the biggest reason. You don't even have to own a physical chess set if you have internet access. Chess is extremely accessible and not expensive to play.
For example, if a child wants to play youth hockey, he/she needs access to all of the gear and ice time --- both expensive.

Moistcr1tikal's immortal game brought me here. I was always a casual player but extended quarantine boredom made me stick to it.

Hope is the only thing that push everybody move forward. To hope no charge is required. Just hope.

Whatever has to happen will happen!

Yes, chess is a common man's game. Very less expensive.
