Why most players on chess.com deny rematch?

I 100% decline rematches even if I won or lost the first game.
No point playing same person again!

For the love of all that's holy, chess.com, give us a disable rematch setting already

I would keep the rematch request button but change its function.  When pressed, the person's account would be immediately terminated.

That made me laugh out loud. HeHe. Thanks.

Maybe when playing blitz or bullet there was a time scramble at the end which your opponent won. These time scrambles can increase heart rate, quicken breath and temporarily incapacitate calculation capabilities (yes, I did just write that), so maybe, just maybe, your opponent wanted a rest prior to seeking a new game

Exactly.  That's why the sore loser gripes about being denied a rematch.  Someone had the temerity to beat him and didn't give him an opportunity to get revenge.  Well adjusted people will say, "What's the big deal?  Just play someone else."  But the sore loser doesn't look at it that way.  For him the loss of a game is like getting punched in the face.  He can't get revenge by punching someone else in the face.

Yep, that's hitting the nail on the head right there.

For each person it is different as to the subject of rematches. Me? I detest stupid people who will not resign when they are lost. Don't get me wrong, they don't have to resign but if they insist on me beating them like some gimp at a dominatrix's dungeon why should I give them another game?....then you have another breed of stupid people who will insist on playing blitz and bullet positionally and then blame you for losing (mostly on time),.....then still another sub genus of stupidity, the mouse racer. Case in point. I beat someone with 2 rooks against a lone king. All he did was to move quickly while I constructed the mating net....then it was WA WA WA WA when I decline the rematch.

Meh...

They know you will beat them, ihave been wondering myself.

You seriously think someone who just beat you knows you will beat him in a rematch?  How would he know that?  Perhaps it was the obvious skill you demonstrated in losing the first game that convinced him of your invincibility.  You rematch whiners really need to get a grip.

I prefer rematches cause I believe 1 match doesn't decide a fight. Even the person is below me by lots of rating, I will still accept the rematch. If the person decided to cheat in a rematch, I rather give him the win cause it probably makes him happy. Like there is a reason why unrated games are more relaxing.

The best is when someone asks you for a rematch after you win and you give it to them, but then if you lose they decline another rematch.  It is of course their right to do so, however I believe that it shows little class.

funindsun

My question is, Why do people even ask for a rematch?

funindsun

Revenge sounds like a good reason for decline.

And beside, most times it seem like they feel relief when a rematch is declined wink.png

I only do it if I have something else to do, if I have to go to work or anything but I am considering to do it more offen since every time I ask for a rematch they declined, usually 90% of the times, sometimes guys that want a rematch ask me in a message and I answer, to some guys we have played over 100 games but there are a lot of sore losers out there I guess

mgx9600

I only deny when I don't have time; otherwise, I'd always accept a rematch (or re-rematches or re-re-rematches).  Win or lose doesn't matter for me, but it is fun playing the same person multiple times.

funindsun

I only Accept a rematch if the opponent is fun, we hit it off, or is so superior to me that it makes me laugh.

I'm not that keen on a rematch because it's like an angry or grudge match. If I win, I sometimes play a rematch. A second win is like icing on the cake. Also your opponent knows the way you play, so the surprise element is gone, which is a reason not to play.

FBloggs

I used to accept rematches.  But after seeing countless nasty comments on members' walls by opponents who were denied their constitutional right to rematches and forums like this one created by rematch fanatics, I stopped accepting them.  When a player puts in a seek for a game, he's not signing up for a match.  He doesn't owe you another game if he happens to win.  He's not responsible for your irrational need to avenge a loss.  If your ego is so fragile that you go to pieces when you lose, take up another pastime.  Even the best players lose games.

MtTabor

The rematch button is balm for the weak ego.

We certainly have no shortage of threads on this subject.
