Well if equestrian dressage and ping-pong are Olympic sports certainly the argument could be made that chess is just as deserving.
Having said that, I see no reason why chess being included is something helpful, or even desirable.

I disagree heavily. Chess requires your mind to go through a lot, and chess CAN get stressful and even sometimes you're sweating like crazy. I know that's happened to me.
So for me, chess IS a sport.
The IM should have at least quoted the previous poster's text if it was in response to that. However, it's a pretty good excuse though.
