Over the wrinkled up sheets of plastic that are barely acceptable to look at let alone play on (OTWUSOPTABATLALAPO) is less catchy and also means 'grab the spears' in Swahili, so OTB is a safer and clearer choice.
Why OTB?
Agreed but why not just buy a real board. The cost is no different.
The cost of a wood board is no different than a decent roll-up board? Maybe for the lowest quality wood board you can find and that doesn't count ease of transport with a roll-up.
Because most boards are not the cheap plastic that you claim! They are VINYL! Far sturdier than plastic!
If you handle your vinyl board correctly - for example, roll it up with the squares on the outside, not the inside, it works perfectly fine! (If you roll up a board with the squares on the inside, it will curl up when you try to lay it out flat.)

There are some vinyl boards that don't handle being rolled-up well. I have a couple that do really well and some that are so-so. I've seen terrible ones.

Damn, exposed by the Poirot of chess.com. I retract my statement and apologise. A quick google translate reveals that 'shika mkuki' means 'grab the spears' in Swahili.
I thank you for your opinion and am greatly humbled by your statement. Until next time my friend. Say will you be riding that train leaving from Stamboul to London in a few days?
Above is the picture of my travel board. It cost roughly $50 on amazon. It folds and fits perfectly in a carry case. It’s pieces are high quality. It does not wrinkle. It is easy to travel with, and it is so much better than playing on those wrinkled pos (lol no offense). I can’t stand Playing on them. Especially when I bring my nice board to the match and draw white. It’s like I rather play as black and have a real otb match lol

Why do they call it over the board when most club matches are done on wrinkled up sheets of plastic that are barely acceptable to look at let alone play on..
