Thomas. What you want to do is take a systematic approach to learning the opening, mid game strategy, and endgame.

For the opening, simplify.  Have a single strategy for white and black.  For example, when i am play, I will respond dragon sicilian against e4 and king's indian defense against d4. As I study, I learn more and more variations of these lines and how to deal with them.  As white, have a single attack (I use e4-Ruy Lopez, a great and fundemental strategy).  Make sure to learn how to defend against the most common defenses (being a classical response, sicilian, french, and karo-cann).

Mid-game.  Tactics, buddy.  At this point you dont need anything crazy.  Know how to pin, skewer, xray, and fork.

Endgames.  Videos.  Honestly, I dont study them very often since I use pretty aggressive lines, particuarly as black, so I dont end up in very many endgames.  But know your basics.

And true proffesionals would never recomend online IQ testing sites.

I more or less know about this topic, as my uncle's work is related to this.

You can link that site to me. I will take a look.

Anyway, this is about chess, not about IQ :).

IQ and chess is not very related.

http://www.free-iqtest.net/

I just took this. You should not be judging your IQ by this. For a start, how long you take to complete these 20 questions (that's right, a massive 20 questions) affects the IQ score you're given even though the website does not even tell you that you're being timed, let alone being scored on it. I only worked this out when I was messing around afterwards trying to work out how many correct answers you gave to score 130 and being very confused by what I found.

If that isn't bad enough, every one of the questions is pretty easy. Ironically the only question which took me more than 30 seconds was the one in which you have to unjumble the word "England". Shame on me.

If you want proof of my claims that this test is beyond worthless, try the link again now but quickly go through the test answering the questions with the far right hand side answer on every question. That will give you 6 correct answers out of 20 and will score you an IQ of 143 (give or take a point if you did it slower/faster than myself).

If you're interested, I googled the answers: http://www.free-iqtest.net/answers.asp?q=1. As I got them all right, I'll explain any that you don't understand if you wish.

Note this was not supposed to be a fourm about my slightly below average iq it was supposed to be about whther or not i could make it to 1500. Also anyone who is stupid enough to pay lots of money for their iq even if they have an high iq is a complete oaf in my book

What steps have you taken to get better?

Well i do my tactics everyday i watch youtube videos about staregy openings and certain thing to help such as undefended pieces. Also im getting a platinum membership next month

At this point in your development, you might consider focusing on tactics and reviewing your games. And perhaps putting opening study beyond the basic opening principles on hold.

Ok thank you

Nothing you say in this post makes any sense at all. Slightly below average IQ? You said 130. You said straight A student. Where did below average come from? I didn't say it. As for paying lot of money for an IQ... Huh? Are you living in your own little world over there or something? I have no idea what you're talking about... None.

No it isn't. Even a very slight link between IQ and chess ability is more than enough to disprove that statement just by glancing at your profile here. More than 2K games played. Worse than me. IQ of 167... LOL

The answer is simple.... He doesn't make straight A's or have a high IQ.

I'm assuming English was the one that was really close since your capitlization, punctuation and spelling all need some serious work.

You are just out of middle school, you haven't played more than a few months, you have unlimited potential in chess if you apply yourself.

At 14 , if you play A LOT and study A LOT, you will know in a few years how good you can be, you will be as good as you can get by your early 20's.

I really doubt you will. You need to be able to beat someone with 1500 rating to get there.

Ignore it Thomas.  Some people have a hard time not focusing on themselves.
