Winning more against 1300-1400 than 1100-1200...diagnose problems please!

Can I hear from someone who is experienced and knowledgeable enough to tell me what my problems are. It's probably associated with something very basic. I think the guys who are in the 1100-1200 range don't necessarily play mainline moves, just my 2 cents. So I recognize more tactics etc among more advanced players, but I could be wrong. What is the problem...diagnose please.

Maybe you underestimate them thinking it'll be an easy win so you don't play at your best.

I do the same thing tucker. I feel my game is elevated and I analyze much more efficiently against better players

You are a BIG MATCH PLAYER. Well, It happens with me too quiet often. I often lose to people similar to my rating or below me but when i play someone above me, dont know what but my play gets a bit advanced.  I have  around 40 wins over Masters. It includes NMs CMs and WFMs.( all those wins are in bullet chess so dont consider me a good player) hahahaha! But this does not exclude the fact that i still lose to 1400-1500 each single day. so as it goes when i play someone above me the first thing strikes me No i am not weaker than anyone and the excitement level also goes up and so does the hunger for wins.

Maybe the question is how come you are still playing against the 1100-1200 players when you are already 400-500 ratings above them.

He can surely meet players even 1000 points below him in tournaments and that is where you will find busy sandbaggers

yeah of course  he is talking about the matches here. have you not ever participated in chess.com tournaments? here you will see often that 600 & 700 rated players used to win 1st prizes whereas the 1800 & 2000 were nowhere. Then we found that they were actually 2400& 2300s who lost purposely to get their ratings so low and act like a hero but with the help of chess.com MODS they have been reduced to a low level but 2-3 months ago it just went to a new level. sandbagging.

Same happens to me....I tend to play up to the competition. I think I'm used to playing with more advanced players who just try "little" moves that go for a small advantage unless it is something glaring. The lower rated players just tend to be crazy attackers and those that go for "big" moves....just defense up, run them out of pieces, and win the endgame is the way to go with them...

Well, for practice sake I sometimes lower my rating in order to practice lower rated players. But I think it's psychological as some here are stating. I don't become alert and grit my chess muscles against lower ratings. So that being the case my solution is somewhat obvious/apparent. Short of that, maybe there are sandbaggers who are really high rated but use low rating. I hope that does not make me a sandbagged ;)

Well, for the most part m, their openings are sound or familiar to me. It's just that they gain little material advantages in a short time and end up wining.

Quick warning:

@MyRatingIs1523 and StupidGM often troll with their comments, you can often get the truth by believing the opposite of what they say.

Some of the other players in this forum gave good information.

Actually, I'd be happy to challenge you. What time control, and when?
