womens world championships/ A dutch expert question

Why did the U.S. Grandmaster Zatonisch accept a draw and take a loss to koneru of India in round 3 game 2 to allow Koneru to move to the next round.

To an amateur like me the Dutch was still even?

Something isn't adding up. -- That game isn't over. Are you sure the situation didn't make a pre-arranged draw a good outcome for both players? I'm a patzer maybe there's something going on chess-wise I don't understand, but to me, either the score is incomplete, or the players arranged to draw (which is hardly unknown).

I assume he means she accepted a draw thereby losing the match.

Koneru did give a strange move on RE1 which doesn't look bad to me but is not recognized by fritz or my megadatabase. I think on a couple of people played re1 none of which was significant

 

Another point is this is the world championships and late in the tourney. While the american was down 1-0 in two game match the american obviously felt she couldn't win in that position.
