Aye, there were ramifications for him, but with a little luck my grade next season will push me up a section.

There's nothing to stop you going in for the Intermediate section next year, even without your rating improving.

I remembered another really funny story...

In 2nd class of the secondary school tournament of my area any kid of my age can join. That means that a lot of the contestants are not really experienced in tournaments and a lot of funny things happen. One of the most funny things I can remember is surprisingly the concept of a draw offer.

I was playing on second board and besides me there were playing a boy with a girl. The girl (in the end she got 1st place in girls category) was something like a queen and a rook up and the boy had the idea of offering a draw...

-Draw?

-No.

(takes a merciless look on his face)

-OK. But remember: It was your choice!

And then he slammed his king on the board miving it one square and shouted -Take that!

lol...Maybe the funniest scene I have ever seen in a tournament...

No, he pointed to a particular part of his body... Apparently I don't know whether it's an expression in english too. In greek we say in direct translation "To my balls" meaning that we don't care or that it doesn't matter in slug. Instead of saying it we also use this gesture which aparrently means the same thing... I'd love to see the expression on the GM's face...lol

Yeah I don't think English has this gem.

The English people use the rather less rude alternative, "talk to the hand." Smile

All jokes aside, I offered a draw to someone at an OTB game, he was a pawn and a knight down and he said, 'Naw, I wanna win this!'

BAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Then why offer a draw?  Doesn't seem logical since the scenario sounds like you had a 'won' game.
