Making up new arbitrary rules along the way to please some kibitzers in Internet forums is an excellent idea. In case of a tiebreak there should be a cooking contest between the final two contenders. This year's theme could be curry, in honor of the incumbent WC.

People knew the rules ahead of time, and they weren't rioting in the streets. In fact, nobody complained until after Carlsen won, when all of a sudden it is a great injustice.

Is it really that hard to understand that all the players knew the rules ahead of time, and none of them publicly complained? Nor did any of you whiners start complaining until you didn't like the tournament results.

Re: #41 & #43

I didn't say that; I said that it would have been better that the rules of the tournament would have provided that in case of a tie a playoff should be played. Similarly to what happened in the world championship match between Anand and Gelfand. Then nobody would have complained. Is it really that hard to understand?!

I never heard either Carlsen or Kramnik complaining about the result. Not even murmuring.

"The Regulation of the tournament was just terrible. Who made those rules? The challenger can't be chosen by the tie-break! Why the number of wins became more important than the Sonneborn-Berger score? It's absolutely necessary to arrange a match with the normal time control between first two prize-winners even if they didn't tie but one has surpassed another not more than by a point only. Only if this match finishes in a draw the tie-break should be taken into consideration."

Kramnik got his title match after losing the Candidates to Shirov, so I find it strange with all this talk about Carlsen no longer being deserving of his title match after actually winning the Candidates just because he won it with a small margin and now lost a game. It's not as if Kramnik played better after the Candidates either, he lost to both Fressinet and Aronian in the Alekhine Memorial.

Absolutely not, it should go to his next-of-kin.

Just to add my view to this intellectual debate - Carlsen's the best looking and should play in every World Championship from now on.

I would like to be so good that when I lose, people are surprised.
