It may sound like a peculiar request but are there any ww2 veteran on chess.com if so i would be glad to add you as a friend in order yto exchange memories

My grandfather was a WW2 veteran, don't think many are still living.

Veterans ancient and modern should see very welcoming group Veterans of the Armed Forces.Includes still serving veterans of course.
