I didn't say it didn't, I just said it was relevant.

Well it's not relevant either lol. You're talking about forced mates, he's talking about losing positions.

wouldn't you like the game to be complete? I always thought you only resign once your opponent has made a great capture or dangerous move that you cant recover from.

Mate in three IS a complete game. You could probably fill in the missing moves in the transcript with... Hmm, I dunno... A pen or penlike instrument... (use the printer first, don't paint grafitti on our PC-screen ;))

In all seriousness, the problem here is that those of you actually trying to help this newbie understand the issue is that he's stubborn and closed minded and just simply isn't interested in deepening his understanding.  He's only interested in proving that he's right and everyone else is wrong.  It's the hold like the old saying having to do with "casting pearls to swine".

you're very pesky.

in the tournament I been in OTB some players overlooked a mate in one. I even did that once. So I think a mate in 3 is not always obvious.

So it depends whom I play against..

How many GM and IM games end in checkmate? Among chessplayers it's regarded unethical to play on until your checkmated. Timely resigning is a matter of decency.

Playing on in a completely lost position is a waste of time and energy for both players. E.g. in one of my games in a tournament my opponent has bishop and four pawns (and no threats at all), while I have bishop, rook and six pawns. My opponent doesn't resign, although he's completely lost. Ofcourse there's no such rule that forbids you to play on, but as mentioned: the unwritten chess code tells that you resign and congratulate the other player in such cases.

On the other hand; if you've never seen a mate, never mated (no pun, I assure you ;)) what are the odds that you'll spot one?

I realize that your point is probably geared towards tournaments and such and not as much 'training games', just pointing out this minor detail :)

ok please just stop being mean to me. Exactly how long is this going to go on?  Any comment I make, even if it has nothing to do with this topic,  even if there's nothing controversial about it, you critisize me and anything I say. Please just knock it off. Do you care at all whether what you say offends people or not? and go pick on someone your own age.
