sadly it is not a worthy enough goal, smart minds would be wise to persue other things. Some guys said something some time to the effect of, "the curious thing about chess is the mean is more admirable then excelence"

Bobby Fischer dedicated his young years to chess exclusively (even though he went to the same school as Barbara Streisand, and she had a crush on Bobby), became chess world champion, and only then he started to dedicate his life a bit more to interaction with women.
Was she out of her mind???
no! bobby was an athletic stud, when asked in an interview what he would do if he were not a chess player he replied "i'd be playing sports or something like that' Unless u are blind u will see Bobby was a magnificent looking man, and a world class brain too. why wouldnt barbara love a young Bobby? why not huh Joe why not?
derek me no believe u u are almost there pilgrim! Pump up the volume! I wish i were as far as u. Do it dude! Play only when your hair is on fire (metaphorically) play with great need and desire,, whatever it takes for u to get a sense of urgency... You are almost there!
I agree that anyone who wants it bad enough can have it.
I don't agree with the arrogance of this...

Other than that I believe that you are 100% correct, and that is why I work extremely hard on chess. I fully intend to make 2200.
que pasa. lay it on me dude, educate me dude! U expect me to back down from that challenge? nada going!
They call it master for a reason....do yourself justice....get a master (degree) in a good field thru university study....don't waste your time getting a "masters" in chess....like I've said b4, when someone writes on a resume they are a chess master, I think inherently lazy, addictive personality traits, narcissistic bent, etc....all the traits employers can't stand....
Like so many things in life, chess mastery is not granted to the most gifted but to those who want it the most badly. Even Bobby said in an interview that he knew many gifted players when he was coming up.. he said that many of themfell by the wayside as time went on for one reason or another. and he made it clear that in his opinion the ones who got the best were the ones who hung in there over the years. You're supposed to play chess in an inspired mind. Blending the excruciating demands of mathematical logic with irresistable flights of spontaneous creativity. This is why it is every amateur's fantasy to beat a master. In an inspired state of mind even a so called amateur can beat a master. This is the graet beauty of the game, the great double edged sword. Do you want it bad enough Joe. Well, do you?
