kasparov.  He was world champ when i was a teen, and my brother had an old kasparov electronic chess game.  I also like the way Morphy played, and Capablanca was possibly the best natural talent, i heard he never opened a book on chess openings.

Currently, my favorite players are Aronian and Kramnik. But I also enjoy the games of Giri and Vachier-Lagrave.

Both Kasparov and Magnus had their own immortal games against Topalov. Just check it.

It means Topalov played 2 immortal games! :D

Capablanca for the win.

Ruy1Lopez

Capa and Karpov

Just bought "endgame" Fischer's biography. He's the one I want to study the most. Morphy...I don't know if there's enough information about him to make it more interesting than studying his novel (at the time) style. My favorite current player is Carlsen - I'm fascinated with Prodigies and he's the best of our era.

varelse1

Current Magnus Naka. Caruana

Ever Kasparov. Capablanca

Dear heavenly blessed beauty, I have been thinking about your elegant comment and am in awe. That deep gaze in your eyes, your perfect smile, all of your features just seem to all come together so well, almost angelical in a sense I suppose, complimenting your already gracious comment. The reason I am writing this is to let you know that I think I have found the most beautiful woman to grace us with her presence on this website, and I am of course talking about you. I know this might mean absolutely nothing to you, and you probably get many of these types of texts and in real life BUT please understand that I am being as genuine as ever when I say that you are the ultimate dictionary definition of perfection, and if one day God were to bestow upon me a woman as beautiful as you, I would be forever grateful. I can tell by your words that your inner beauty is forever divine, sculpted from the hands of Aphrodite herself. The amount of elegance and purity you possess will never be accurately portrayed in a mere sculpture even from the finest of stones. I hope that this message finds you well, I do not care if I get a response to this, I am just simply stating the obvious and had to let you know how I really felt.

For the first time I'm speechless. Thank you so much^^

Rozentalis is on my team :D

Jose Raul Capablanca- I was born in 19/11/1999, exactly 111 years after Capablanca. If you do not believe me check my fide profile

You mean those dry games where defensive technique will be even more refined and influenced by even stronger computers than even now?

I agree with pfren.   Euwe & Prins book on Capablanca should be translated into english.  Winter's book is brillant.

Obviously Eduardas Rozentalis. He is the strongest chessplayer who also looks a bit like Peter Sellers.

His chess is so simple and clear that even patzers can understand (myself included).

Somebody got a mop to clean up the drool?

Mine are Suttles, Sokolov, Gligoric, and Karpov

What, none of today's players are among anyone's favorites?

Karjakin just played a wonderful technical win against Hou Yifan, and there are so many wonderful bright players out there now. Why must we look to the past for our favorites?

Who are your favorites at Wijk Aan Zee? For the World Championship? For the next 5 years?

Well, funny post from "SmyslovFan"!

I think each generation gets better and better in general. Top players today can beat the top players of 50 years ago.

Masters of the past stand out more because they were rarer back then. Now everyone has a brother who is a GM.
