Your thoughts about endgame and deep calculation

I have always wanted to learn endgame and be better at it. Many people say it can increase chess level but it is very, very hard to do. Occasionally i solve puzzles here and occasionally i stumble across some endgames. My last puzzle was an endgame which was extremely hard for me. It is a position where you need to calculate at least 10 moves deep to see the final solution. 10 moves deep is the winning line and about 8 moves deep are incorrect sidelines. I have spent 77 minutes on that endgame and now my brain is numb and even hurts a little because it is hard to keep so many moves in the brain. Now i need at least one day break from chess.

And that brings a question. Is it worth to do such thing? Yes it feels good that i can solve hard positions but it takes a lot of time. Some endgame positions are even harder than that. It feels like playing short  time controls and trying to see not deep but broad is the better way. What is the point of deep calculation if you hang pieces every game? The main problem is time. I can try to study endgames but it will take ages to master them if i spend several hours only on one position. Some endgames are so hard that i need maybe couple days to solve them on my own and some are not solvable at all.

The example is former women's world champion Ushenina who couldn't checkmate with a knight and a bishop but was a champion anyway.

I am much lower rated than you so take this with a grain of salt. If you are planning on playing classical otb where you have hours for a game, i think these things and deep calculations are valuable of course. If your intention is just to play blitz/rapid online or in tournaments I think that you can probably better spend your time practicing other things.

It is advised to study endgame first but how can we do it if even ones with few pieces can be extremely hard?
