I lost two games due to this but I am unclear what happened. I never have had this happen before. I was playing on phone texting some between moves but would check back every few seconds. Ive done that in the past without issue.

Is the abandonment trigger time cumulative for a game?

Leaving the app can cause abandonment.

Depending on your time control and how many moves in you are, there are different abandonment reasons.

Pretty sure it isn't. However, if you're playing on the app and switching focus, that could cause issues as well.

when I play in the browser and go and check something I do not find my game again. Where is the actual game that I am playing?

For istance check my opponent and then want to return to the game...

You can't "go and check something" or the system considers the game abandoned.   It's an attempt to keep the game honest.

I open stuff in tabs and never have issues

Separate tabs may not cause issues, if you don't stay away from the game tab very long. Completely leaving the game screen could.

Cheers guys. Check something is a synonym for Do things for which I am in the office...

I just lost a game due to abandonment where I was studying a move for no more than one minute. Yet I can't count how many times I've had to sit and wait for 3-4-5 minutes to run off the clock before I received my win for obvious abandonment. Like, people just being rude when I've whipped their ass but are not kind enough to resign. These abandonment situations seem arbitrary and capricious. They don't follow hard rules. Or, if they do I certainly don't understand them. What Gives?

Your last loss by abandonment was before move 10. There is a long move timer that is in effect prior to that and after the first moves are played.

Just “Abandoned a game” apparently because I answered a call from my dad on my iPad while I was playing a 5 min game. It took me 30 seconds to answer and I still had 4:15 left in a 5 min game but apparently I abandoned it and lost rating points.
