if you want your rating to inflate play your rating group, if you want to learn, play higher rated people :)

Reframe from the 4 knights opening. Those games tend to be dull and boring and do not really encourage the development of tactics but slow piece play. Basically those games are boring and don't usually better your tactical game

If you wish to learn higher level play, then form up some challenges against higher-rated players. And whether you win, lose, or draw, ask them to help you analyze your match afterwards to see where you could improve and what they were thinking when they made certain effective moves against you.
Of course, you should study your own games - I oftentimes see moves and threats that went unnoticed during the match through my postmortem analysis.
Books can help with strategy (though I often find such books annoying and overly complicated in their depiction of strategic insight), and especially tactics practice (e.g. puzzles and example matches).
Studying historical games between grandmasters and champions also provides some insight as to the strategic-positional play aspects.
Most importantly, just keep on playing and trying to learn from your mistakes. Through actual gameplay, you can develop a greater understanding as to what is effective and what isn't, what sort of openings fit with your playing style, and general experience to grow from.

You can play a few unrated games with better ranked players. How about finding a mentor?
