No. No one has yet explained what it really is.

If you were actually muted, you couldn't post here in the forum.

If it is something real, use the bug report tool to let Support know. (You find the bug report tool on the Support page-- not in the forum.)

Phantom muting affects all versions of chess.com according to my own experience as well as others. It might be a bug that has to do with the posting limit being inconsistently brought down. Sometimes I get this after posting twice or 15 times. I don’t know it’ll that helps or if you care but yknow it’s there.

Is this what's being seen (web and app)?

Yes.

Then it's not really a mute. I believe the app is hitting the same thing the website does and the banner on the website is the reason.

So how do we stop it from happening?

Martin_Stahl

I think it's based on quick consecutive posts and may include replies and new topics in that. So if you post a little less often it's less likely to occur.

I have no idea how to code and I'm probably making this sound a lot easier than it actually is, but couldn't you just remove it?

Pretty confident that's not something that will be done. Staff could tweak how it works but they're unlikely to remove it.

Why?

Martin_Stahl

It was coded for a reason surprise

Which is...?

Martin_Stahl

I believe it's a spam mitigation mechanism.

DanishDefence64

Oh, alright. That makes sense I guess.
