Chess.com Premium Membership Confusion [SOLVED]

EDIT: Due to a recent change in the plans chess.com offers and a case of poor memory on my part, I wrote this post because I thought Chess.com was somehow glitched and withholding features I paid for. As you read on, note that I take back my negative statements about chess.com, and I'm about to upgrade my membership as I'm writing this...Although to be fair, the chess.com support team is slower than what we are to expect.

I am leaving this post up incase anyone else has the same problem I had, so that it might serve as a solution for them.

Awhile ago I purchased a chess.com gold tier membership, primarily for the 'free unlimited lessons' it claims to offer on the website. It worked up until recently. Now the website limits me to 3 lessons per week, encouraging me to upgrade to platinum or diamond. It still confirms my gold tier membership is active, I still have access to challenging all bots, and I still have my gold tier flairs. No unlimited lessons. This is frustrating as you can imagine, because I paid chess.com for a product that chess.com is not providing me.

I contacted support about this 5 days ago, even asking for some type of compensation, but I am still waiting for a response. The case seems to have gone cold.

Chess.com should have the money to fund an appropriate staff to notice their customer's issues in a timely manner (they said to expect 2 days for a response, it has been 5 days with no response), and they should be working to resolve issues as quickly as they take notice of them. They should also compensate their customers for the time lost on their behalf, such as in my case. I paid for a year worth of product, but I did not get my year worth of product.

So far Chess.com is not checking any of these boxes that a fair business should check. They may as well break into my house and steal my wallet so they can continue taking my money in an unfair manner.

Below you can find the message I sent to support:

Have Gold Membership But Lessons Are Limited

Hello, I have a gold membership but the website is limiting how many lessons I can take now. Gold membership is supposed to have unlimited lessons.

I am paying for unlimited lessons and chess.com is not giving me unlimited lessons. This is ruining my morning plans and halting my chess learning development. I am a paying customer. I would like to be compensated for this and I think it is fair. Thank you, and have a great morning.

Thank you for reading. Any suggestions?

Hey, when did you purchase your subscription? If you purchased it before sometime in September, you’ll get the old membership features, not the new ones you can see now

My premium membership began on July 28, 2021.

Since you mentioned it, I looked into the details of the old membership features. So it looks like I locked into my old premium plan which apparently did not include unlimited lessons, and after taking a hiatus and coming back to chess, I remembered my plan incorrectly. When I saw that the 'new' gold plan offers unlimited lessons, I thought I always had that feature. I'm sure you can imagine my confusion.

So I was not a cheated customer, I was a confused customer. I retract everything negative I said about chess.com. I was wrong. In fact, I regret this post and wonder if the best course of action would be to take it down as it speaks so unfairly about the company. Hopefully this post does it justice.

Speaking about being wrong...The human memory can be deceiving. Despite being in good faith, I wrote a blatant lie and didn't even realize it... when I confidently believed and said "I purchased a chess.com gold tier membership, primarily for the 'free unlimited lessons' it claims to offer on the website."

Anyway.. Thanks for your help, Bowser.. An incident like this will humble someone and cause them to sit back and reflect for awhile. happy

No problem, you are definitely not the first person who’s been confused about this, so don’t be too hard on yourself.
