Chess.com Server Lag, disconnects

Has anyone else experienced disconnects and lag time reconnecting costing them a game?  I just lost a match because the connection to the game server dropped out from under my workstation.  I have experienced disconnects and poor connections.  I believe it is chess.com's severs.  It's frustrating.

While a server issue can never fully be ruled out it is usually something between you and the site or a client side issue, possibly even a misbehaving ad.

You are not the first to allege this but it seems like most people connect with no problems or major lag.

This site used to have very little server lag, either for paying members or those playing for free. Then, starting a few years back the lag,for me at least, started to become a major issue. It didn't matter whether I utilized the site via a top-line gaming rig or potato lap-top,I experienced increasingly severe lag. Now chess.com's lag for 5/0 games is so pronounced as to make that time control unplayable;the most likely outcome for me at that time control is a loss on time or a warning for game abandonment after the game board locks-up or disconnects. This is the only online game site were server lag is an issue.Suggestions from support for fixing the issue are pointless, they are "canned" responses and have never worked.I suspect the issue is unique to chess.com and its business model.

Yes, but your current rating is pretty much right where it has been for the last 9 year, through 27,000+ games.

Shouldn't we expect to see a decline in your rating if the site got worse?

My rating is immaterial  as to whether or no the server lag is getting worse. The bandwith/lag issues are independent of my rating.

Good try with the red-herring,though.

If you're not losing more than usual and seeing your rating decline, I don't see how you can declare it unplayable.

Notmtwain..I AM losing more than usual and my rating HAS tumbled,I dont care about the rating,,I'd like to finish a game legitimately, rather than lag/lock-up doing it for me.The site /server lags, the rest is immaterial, and ,even though it doesn't matter a bit to the issue at hand, even though some thinks it should,I play at  a much lower rating now than before this issue occurred.I ping -pong back and forth between 1200---1400 because even though the lag is intolerable,D-class players play so slowly( and sometimes poorly) that I can still win my ,while players rated above about 1450 play well enough and fast enough that I can't compete. my rating appears stuck perpetually at mid-D class. That I don't care about,I care about the constant losing on time, freezes and disconnects,of which there is nothing that can be done.Hopefuly that explains the situation for the chess.com shills and apologists who seem to be hung up on my rating, and not the issue.which is...the lag is so crushing, one directly or indirectly it is deciding most of my games, not my opponent. That is a frustrating situation.

If some one has something relevant to add to the thread about lag please do; the chess.com shills are invited to go hawk the site on another thread.

I am not a shill. I was trying to understand your original post. Now you have explained it.

I mainly use a cable broadband connection and I have only experienced lag when I connect via wifi.

How do you connect?

I've experienced about 10 games where I have full bars, full connectivity and it drops my connection at the very end when im blitzing out games. This has happened in the last few days, that is a ton of games to lose for no reason. now I am down 150 points in just a few days due to many disconnects, its ridiculous. Nothing to do with my connection at all. I came on here just to check if there are more problems than usual with the server. I've experienced this before, and it happens in clusters each time for a few weeks and then goes away?!?!?!

All, thank you for sharing your experience.  Lately I have not experienced any lag in playing online on chess.com.  Gameplay has been smooth with no noticeable delay from my keyboard to the screen.  I do hope to contribute to the site more in the future and I do appreciate use of the platform.  Interesting to read the comments about a possible connection to rating.

On ICC there was a PING mechanism to let you know your server response time. Is there such a thing here?

Same problem here.  chess.com's lag issue's have become fairly severe.  I also suspect though I have no proof that even when things appear to be normal the clock is just off, as in a 3 min. game isn't actually a 3 min game.  sometimes after you play a move it takes quite a while before your opponent's clock even starts.  I've been playing on Lichess lately.  Their connectivity seems rock solid.

I've had over a dozen lag, or server disconnects recently, rating has taken a dump
