Don't suppose anyone's had any luck? I'm particularly interested in whether it works using a mouse pad to move pieces (rather than touch)
Thanks

You should be able to use it as long as you're using a mouse. We don't support the touch screen functionality of the Windows 8 OS.

Thanks for this - very helpful. Are there any plans to support touch screen in the future?
I tried playing on my windows surface a few minutes ago and I was enjoying the larger than a phone touch screen to play.. Until I ran into the problem of not being able to capture any pieces..
I would like to see it supported.
I'm on a Surface Pro now and the stylus that ships with it works perfectly fine - capturing and all. Actually, I have two windows up at the same time: on the left I have articles that I pinch-zoom/swipe and on the right I have the chessboard that I control with the stylus.
Unfortunately, the RT Stylus essentially functions like a very fine finger while the Pro Stylus is actually a mouse in the form of a pen, and I don't think you can use a Pro Stylus on an RT. But you can still use the trackpad on the keyboard if you have one!
I have a Windows phone (Nokia 920) and the touch screen works fine when I go to the Chess.com site. The phone is running Win8. However, I just got a Surface Pro 2 and find that touch-screen capture doesn't work on this platform. I'm going to see if there is way to temporarily disable the 'screen scroll' function and maybe that will allow the touch screen captures to work. Will let you know.
Guess what I just did. I played a blitz chess game online using the touchscreen of my windows RT without any issues at all!!! NO it was not on this site, it was on chesscube.com. farewell chess.com you are too slow to adapt.

Thanks for the tip. Just bought the Surface 2 and love it! Would love it even more if Chess.com would develope a Windows Store app...
yes id like to play and cant seem to take opponents pieces... oh well cya chess.com :/

My Surface 2 has been working fine. At first I had to use the stylus, as my finger didn't work for capturing. Now both finger and stylus work fine.
I am on the edge of buying a surface.... will chess.com work on it.... and if not why are chess.com not supporting it?
Sorry i am bit of a technopobe.
I currently play chess all the time ....and dont want to lose the opp.
I do believe that we have started working on a Windows 8 app :) As well as the touch screen move issue has been reported and should be addressed at some point, though I'm not sure when exactly this will all happen. Sorry I don't have more of a strict time frame!
I currently use microsoft surface RT and I've notied that touchpad doesn't allow to capture enemy pieces (sometimes). I use the touch cover mousepad and it works fine. The site itself works fine except for player vs. comp. The online chess and turn based works fine though. A USB mouse should be fine and much cheaper than the touch cover.
This is silly that the issue is still not resolved after this long. It would literally take any coder about 15 minutes to find the appropriate line and correct the issue. I have a Surface RT and when anyone captures one of my pieces, the entire thing becomes frozen.
Also, here are some other suggestions-- HATE, HATE, HATE how when I go to play a live game it automatically adds some "top game" to observe and makes me start observing it. It slows everything down. Also, when I try to hit the Chat tab, any time there is an update to the "Events" tab, it will kick me back out of chat and reload.
Horrible!
AND I suggested about a year ago that when a game starts, play a sound-- if you look away from the screen and are selected as White when the game starts, you have no way of knowing your game has started unless you are staring at the screen. I play primarily on my iPhone and there's just no excuse for not having a "game started" sound-- a ding, a bell, whatever.
I've got my eye on a Windows RT device - a Lenovo Yoga 11 - but wanted to check if Chess.com works okay on Windows RT. I did have a Microsoft Surface RT, but the site didn't work properly due to, I think, a Java problem (specifically I I couldn't take opponents pieces on Online chess). I don't know whether this was a problem with the Surface, or with Windows RT.
Are there any other Windows RT users who have found chess.com works fine or not?
Thanks
