Chinese IP banned?

Various Chinese players reported that their IP were banned by site administrator. Is that an intended operation, or a bug? If this banning is intended, we need an explanation; if that's a bug, we need a promise and schedule of repairing.
FromCN

Yes, we need an explanation.

Thats at least what i did when i went to china...

You should know what happened before making comments, we can connect to the server before today without and restriction. However, we can't connect since this morning, and the message returned told that it is the website who banned Chinese IP to connect.

Guys, let the governments do their job.

I am here for playing chess, I don’t wanna argue politics.

Did something die? I smell a terrible odor ... a dead troll or something like that.

The access is restored, but I'm not sure whether it will be cut again.

An official message from the staff:

<< We recently found that someone is trying very hard to harass, spam, and trick Chess.com members into revealing personal info. If you receive a suspicious message, just delete it. Do not give out any information to anyone via Chess.com messages or fake links. Also, be assured NO DATA has been accessed by anyone - everything is safe.

As you know, Chess.com is a social network like many others where anyone can join. That comes with it’s challenges, and we spend a lot of time dealing bad guys who are looking to exploit this. This weekend someone found a way around some of our systems and is currently creating a ton of fake accounts to try to message other people. It’s annoying, but not dangerous, and we are in the process of patching the holes and cleaning up the garbage accounts. The worst part about this is that they are doing this while some people are trying to enjoy vacation :/

Anyway... while we clean this up, we hope you have an amazing holiday season spent with friends, family, food, movies, chess, or whatever you like to do.

Happy Holidays!

For all of you wanting to access sites outside of China, you have to use a VPN. If you use a VPN, you can bypass normal restrictions that we all encounter in trying to access certain sites, if our IP originates outside of the country that you are trying to gain access to.

Furthermore, I highly recommend cleaning up the politics and, personal attacks and bickering, since it is most likely to get erased anyway. I would hate to lose the ability to chat here with some of you, as continual engagement in those activities tend to get you muted.

I am not attacking you, I am just saying that people can access 90% of the sites outside of China. It's the 10% that are blocked. Your statement made it sound like all sites outside of China are blocked which is not true.

No, my statement didn't make it sound like that. I just explained how to get around the ones that are. If you'd stop trying to put words into other people's mouths and read what is in front of you, you will see that, but I will give you the benefit of the doubt that English isn't your first language...

Yes, just like we are blocking Huawei and arresting the CEO's daughter. It goes both ways. No need to single out China in this case.

I didn't single out anyone....

....show me a single statement where I accused anyone of anything. I just know certain sites in some countries have restricted access to anyone, if their IP isn't on a list or in a certain range. I couldn't even access certain Canadian websites while in Canada, with my phone, since it had a US IP, through my phone carrier.

Its a very good/strong possibility that these two events ... are linked.

Yes, possibly the players had their accounts mistakenly banned.
