E4 is an excellent opening move- if not the best. The move prefered by the legendary Bobby Fischer because as he claimed "it's best by test". It leads to an open game usually as oposed to other opening moves.
e4

Well, it does weaken the e pawns protection of the d3 and f3 squares, and it's potential protection of the d4 and f4 squares. Every pawn moves weakens the squares that the pawn can no longer ever protect again. But it's still one of the best possible first moves, which is why it's one of the most popular, even at grandmaster level.

e4 instantly loses to 1...C5!! and white might as well resign...he can play the mainline and run into a najdorf where he is lost or play a sideline where white is lost or an anti-sicilian(2.c3) where he is lost. *sarcasm*
Nah, white can just play the Smith-Morra Gambit against that, and black loses every time.
why is e4 bad? i thought it was a good opening to get the d5 square thingy.
