@qixel, yes rub it in! ;^)
Ya know, they could be doing this to help people. With all the computer bugs, and viruses on line these days, google, yahoo, somebody's getting hacked every time you turn around. Erik can buy the newest servers known to man, and 10 minutes later, the're obsolete.
that could be the case, or it could also be the case of with all the crazy computer/online insecurities they are just washing their hands of it.
I don't really care what the reasonings are, I can go along with valid reasoning. Clicking to check my email and finding I can't remains not cool.
Why can't they simply make @chess.com a forwarding mail service? Little server load! It'd be cool like those alumni email services which too are just forwarding emails. Why do all the crummy phasing out stuff?
Trouble is we were told a while back that email would be maintained for existing users.
Erik & the site appear to have reneged on that promise which is not great.
Have finally managed to get my mail via gmail using the POP3 settings. It wasn't easy for someone who has no idea what POP3 is and took a while to get it right. I agree Wormrose, a bit of notice would have been nice, plus I've still had absolutely no contact from chess.com, very poor !
Please take a look a the screenshot and see if you can point at something I might be doing wrong:

I found the easiest way around this was the site http://mail2web.com/
You can just put in your chess.com email and password and access things as normal.

Many thanks, sir!
mail2web does not work for me, perhaps because I am a non-paying member of chess.com? Anyway, I scrambled to redirect the bulk of my email elsewhere. Don't know how much mail I lost. Learned my lesson. :(
Email was free for all members. I thought it was taken down one or two years ago but I guess it still works.
I'm a paid member and mail2web doesn't work. I've submitted 4 complaints and heard nothing from them. If email is not working then why not send me a message. They are probably monitoring this discussion forum and there's nothing from them. They have all the resources of this website and... nothing.
Lovely!

I'm not claiming to know what I'm talking about Xavier, but it looks like you were in IMAP / SMPT settings instead of POP3. I'm really not a tech type of person so I think I got lucky, have you tried Gmail ?
Can you all tell me which external client you're trying to set up the emails on and which operating system ?
I'll then take you through how to set it up so you can at least read the emails in order to save them somewhere else.
I tried it on my Blackberry Q10 and on a PC running Thunderbird. On both I followed the instructions given on the page that comes up on the old email link.

I... don't think I had a chess.com e-mail?
