Well...i haven't tried the chess mentor option, so i haven't had any issues with it. So, I guess that's your answer -- don't use it and you won't get the error message. But, at some point today I will give it a shot and see if I can replicate the problem. I also use Opera, Fox, and Chrome and have XP and 7, so I should be able to try it in all of those formats as well. But as you say, one would have to think that the problem is at Chess.com's end rather than yours.

i haven't tried it. I think you should contact help & support. They will investigate for you.

Click on, "Technical support & Bug report" and then fill out your user name, email and the link to the page along with the problem
It is important to note that it may be because of your browser or try clearing cache/cookies.

Whenever I'm using the chess mentor or doing some tactics an error pops up when the page is loading the next step or another tactic.
"An error occurred during AJAX Response parsing"'
And then I get a pop-up which is blank.
This has happened with both windows xp and 7. Don't think its the browser because opera, mozilla and chrome have the same problem.
Is there any genius out there able to help me with this one?
