Fair Play Policy?

If only we could abort this newly born thread.

Read the "fricking rules" of the road, beforehand.  Duh?

And stop clicking away mindlessly, ("...this is quite ridiculous, actually," direct quote from OP's post above), because there is probably an equal number of "annoyed people" on the other side of your "15 aborted or stalled games."

It is against the Chess.com terms of service for members to advertise for competing chess sites in the forums.

Why would someone be opposed to waiting 15 to 30 seconds before an opponent's first move (and only the first move)? It's only 15 to 30 seconds! This is not an unreasonable amount of time. I would think that someone would welcome the brief break between the flurry of moves in multiple successive games being played. Such a very short amount of time is the perfect chance to catch one's breath.

It's not the 15-20 seconds (as annoying as that is) it's the 5 minutes after each one of those disconnects that's driving me crazy.  Am I the only that plays chess at work?

Hey,

I just signed up and have played a few games, but all of a sudden I get an error message saying I have to wait 5 minutes, saying I didn't follow the Fair Play Policy. But I HAVEN'T stalled, abandoned, or aborted a single game.

I wait 5 minutes play a game, then rematch, and it says the same thing again.

I may have to go to a different chess site...

Edit: I may have aborted a some games before I realized how to set the rating limit but that was because I was playing really low rated players... regardless of that, I think you should be able to abort ANY game... this is quite ridiculous actually

The restriction was applied because you either aborted or stalled in 15 games.

My game got aborted and I have to wait another  minutes even though I didn't abort the game.  How's that for a fair play policy?

That's still messed up.  I've been at this site almost a year and played probably nearly a thousand games and because I have to abort a game to take a call every once in a while now I have to wait  5 minutes just to play and that's if the other person or server doesn't abort the game where I have to wait another 5 minutes.

If you're playing as black or white and you don't make your first initial move within 20 seconds, the server aborts the game and if you're the one who didn't move, its your account that gets flagged.

If you abort a game the system flags your account.

In Live Chess in your New Game tab, and the Rating Option, you can set it there as to who can (what ratings the opponents must have) accept your challenges.

This way you decide which games you get so you won't need to abort them.

YAWN.

@knoxsouthy75, just follow the "fair play rules" and the your apparent delay will (eventually) drop off.

If you don't already know that (after playing "a thousand games") then perhaps it's time to consider going to the FAQs, and just reading-up a little.  Instead of whining.  It doesn't become you.

And doing "Johnny-One-Note refutations" of STAFF posts (by @kohai, as noted above) won't win you any beauty contests, either.  Sorry.  Just let it go, please.

Let me start off by saying I really enjoy the site and all its resources. I like many others didn’t read the “fair play policy” and now must reap the repercussions of waiting 5minutes before games. Shame on me, I guess for wanting to play chess and not read “Policy”. Having the “Abort” icon as option I truly thought I wouldn’t get penalized for using it; Oh well, shame on me for assuming. In all, I enjoy my time on this site and wish it continued success.

this is good info- i didn't know about the 20 sec rule- i used to abort games when my opponent was WAY out of my league but then i fugured out the how to adjust challanges( im not the brightest bulb in the box and perhaps a couple tacos short of a combo plate) but now all right in chesslandia.

however i do abort games with players who display unsportsmans like conduct ( 5 yard penalty) and i have even had the situation occur (twice) where someone abandons a game w/10+min left just to let the clock run and i block them and then my very next game challange they came up as my opponent- so i assume that blocking only applies to messages not game searches? can this be so?

@SafariQueen: If these games were in Live Chess, then you don't need to abort the games. After a sufficiently long pause (of several seconds, so not very long), the server will abort the game for you. This is more desirable for you.

If the server aborts the game, the abortion will be charged to your unresponsive opponent. But if you abort the game as described, it will be charged to you. Since you're the one trying to play fairly, you shouldn't have to do this. Next time, just wait a while longer. Otherwise, you may be punished by the policy for aborting too many times.

Thanks for the advice, this is something I won't do in future.

In the past when I've had seeks accepted, I've made my move, and then the opponent has never responded, and eventually the game has run out of time (or been aborted) by the server.

 Thanks. Embarassed

Fair play policy? I never cheated but Chess.com attached many games (20) to my former Handle DENVERHIGH and linked them to my new second handle RichColorado . . .

Here is the link ; https://www.chess.com/members/view/DENVERHIGH

I've contacted customer service several times gotten reply but the games are still linked. . . I don't think they know or care about it I been here since 2010 , , ,

I;m 85, I'll pass away soon then it won't matter. . .

That account was created well after you changed the name on your existing account.

RichColorado

I just went to that DENVERHIGH account that wasn't mine and clicked on one

of the games and did an analysis. It let me and it worked.

When it was done, It said that the moves Denverhigh made were at 1700 level.

I always thought if I got to 1800 I would be happy.

In a team match I just won a game and I went up one rating point to 1336. YAY! !
