Not that I knew of, how long are you waiting?
Forum Comment Entering
i remember some people a long time ago saying that they would compose long posts in a text editor and paste it into the comment box.
Used to happen to me many months ago using Opera.
Submited, but no post showed.
Using Firefox since then and have had no problems (if there's a relation).
Sometimes when I spend awhile composing a comment, then "submit" it and see "Your comment has been added," it hasn't. It's gone. Is there a time limit?
Yes. I believe there is. I copy my post to the clipboard before submitting it if I take a long time composing it. Then if it doesn't go through, all you have to do is paste it in again and resubmit.
I'm using Firefox. Sounds like I'm guessing right about the time issue---a couple of times I've spent at least 20 min. honing some "brilliant" witty little essay
, and when it's "perfect"
and I send it and it disappears, I become distraught

, as you can imagine
. Better finish this one Fast! Thanks for your responses!
The limit is 30 minutes AFAIK. In blog posts, you get a reminder to save your work, but in forum posts, you don't.

That's what I do too.
Sometimes I've forgotten though and thankfully it posts anyway... I haven't had a post disappear in quite a while.
I think the time limit is much longer now than it used to be. Yesterday I typed out a post, and when I was done my phone rang. I had a 10-15 minute conversation, came back, and it posted no problem
But whenever I see "your comment has been added" it's always there. Whenever it ate my post it wouldn't say anything and I knew I was screwed :)
So you may be having a different sort of problem?
Well, I'm not using any "bad" words---what would I see on the screen if I did
,and the system censored me? (btw, looks like "screwed" goes through OK
)

Thanks! YABVH (you've all been very helpful)
Mom, I complained to the powers that be and they suggested It was a glitch in "Explorer". I switched to "Firefox" and everything works fine. game?
To lose a prize winning post which took some time developing would be very discouraging. If there could be a time clock warning us how much time remains, that would keep alot people from expressing their four letter words.
Lol, I didn't see it 3 years ago. Plus have you seen the movie Admission? It's about a lady who gave up her child for adoption years ago.
She could she be my mother (in law) who went out for coffee and never came back. Don't get me started :(
Wow. I didn't know this issue went back three years. Hey, staff, how about taking care of this bug?
It's happened to me, also. I think the "timer" is about 15 minutes. I've lost content when not paying attention to time, which is pretty darn sad. I would think the site would want to keep your attention?
After I first noticed it, I would have to click on preview to "save" the post, then hit edit to continue.
Ah, someone found this old forum I started 3 years ago. This interwebs business is amazing. Nothing ever dies -- whether you want it to or not...
About the actual issue, I've noticed the time limit Does seem less draconian -- and I Have gotten a warning that I need to hurry up. Then I've been going ahead and hitting "Post Comment" and editing right away, or taking a Big chance with my shamefully unreliable "copy and paste" skills. I "copy" my rough draft, leave the page, and then come back later and "paste" it as the start to a "new" comment.
Thanks Al, for the "preview" and "edit" idea -- I hadn't taken a chance on that before!
