Resolved: holidays

I have been asked to delay my moves in a tournament because my opponent is going away for 4 days.  Won't I lose on time with 2 days to make my move? Is there no means of booking a holiday on this site and what should I do?

I guess you could agree to set up the next few moves so you can wait 2 days before trigerring a conditional move which (hopefully) will reset your timer...

you can use vacation if you are a paying member, as long as it is not a no vacation tournament.

Its your choice if you use your vacation time to help your opponent out, but they should be able to use their own to pause their games.

If you don't make a move and don't turn on your own vacation time, you will lose on time.  If you pause that game, all games are paused, meaning you're keeping any other opponents you have waiting if its your turn to move.

Thank you but I am so confused by this site I dont know how to do those things and now I can't get the game back.   Best to give up?

From your own homepage, point your cursor at the top right corner where it says My Home.

A drop down menu appears. Click the top option on the list where it says 'Online Chess'.  That takes you to your current games list.

If you click the right side of the game where it shows either 'My Move' or 'Waiting' you can view the game.

When you go from your homepage to your online games page, if you look at the menu options on the right side, it will show items like this;

    *  Home                          * Current Games
    * Start New Game          * Games Archive
    * Open Seeks                 * My Stats
    * View Players                * Settings   <-------
    * Top Rated Games        * Help

You see above where i entered the arrow, click on the settings link on your games page.
If you can't find it, its on this link below

http://www.chess.com/home/echess_settings.html

Scroll down that settings page to where it says
Vacation PAUSE MY GAMES! I'm on vacation: please pause all of my games!
Check/tick mark that box if you "Are" going on vacation
UN check/tick mark that box if you want vacation time 'Removed' from games

It is very Important you remember to save the settings changes by clicking "Save Preferences" at the bottom of that page before closing or leaving that window otherwise any changes you made won't happen.

At this moment there are no games where it is your move.

It may be your opponent wanted you to wait as long as possible without losing on time so they could get back before their own game clock ran out.

Thank you for your help.  Maybe that is what my opponent wanted.  Most sites seem to allow vacations but I haven't found that facility here

Thanks to everyone for your helpful comments. I won on time through dithering about but didn't enjoy winning.  I think I know what to do next time.  Thank you again
