If you are playing blitz over the board, one popular way to resign is to swat your king, so that it goes flying on to the floor, as seen in this video. The Russian phrase "O kom on" which Krush utters here when translated into English is a very polite way of saying "good game."

But why do people resign? Why don't they play to mate?

I guess resigning "saves face". Some people might consider being checkmated a little bit more humiliating

To me near the end it seemed like they went playing chess and just taking the piece and it didn't look like they were hitting the clock but I have got to try that
