I have the exact same problem and it's on MacOS Safari, I've submitted a bug report twice without any response from support.

Hi,
On the PC, on the left menu is the play button. For me it has a little 9 in a red circle. I can't make this little number go away. I have no outstanding games. I found recent game with a chat whose final comment wasn't read. When I opened the chat the little number went from 10 to 9. I am presuming that these are alerts saying I have unread chats, probably from very old games.
Is there an easy way to see all my outstanding unread chats so I can clear them quickly?
