How to disable achievements, or at least the notifications for such?

I do love this site and it's become a fair part of my daily downtime. I'm here every day. I've been here almost every day since 2008.

I don't need cheering on for logging on 7 days in a row, and it seems clear it's going to happen every day. Nor do I need congratulating for being chatty. I am not chatty. I contribute a bit to Vote Chess and make exceedingly occasional posts like this one.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind these bells and whistles that I'm sure many people find motivating, if they didn't:

a) add to my notifications where I only really want to know about relevant content to which I've subscribed to alerts

b) create error messages when I try to dismiss the superfluous notifications (red bar at the top of the screen, ends in a 404), which in turn also needs dismissing and, while it's there, covers up the parts of the screen I actually want to access (my genuine notifications)

c) spawn large musical pop-ups that also need to be dismissed before I can do anything else on the site.

But David, I hear you ask, "why are you taking the time to make so many keystrokes to complain about something that clearly takes approximately ten clicks in total to get rid of everything? Wouldn't it be economically better to suck up having to make the extra clicks?"

The answer is that if someone can present a solution (a way to disable these achievements, or at least the notifications for them) without also disabling the notifications that I actually want, I'll be spared the daily slew of [to me] unnecessary gamification of what's already a games site, and this'll be a one-off investment of my time to address it

I can mention up front that yes, I've swung by my Settings page and I only find notifications options for all the stuff we had previously, not for this new set. If I'm just being daft and missing something obvious, again, I'll be happy to learn of it.

So I guess there is no way to turn this rubbish off since this seems to be the only thread a search took me to?  I thought there's a separate site for kids anyway?!

Agreed. Trying to play and this nonsense keeps distracting me. I don’t want this forced on me.

I imagine the notification won't happen if you have the I get an Award option off in Settings > Notifications

The inexcusable thing is they happen during games. You ‘achieve’ something g during one bullet game and it’s being announced in the next. Not ok. 

I've had that switched off for ages and I still get them.
