Is it wrong to ask questions?

1. Definitely RetGuvie was not ironic or disrespectful in his comments.

2. Agree, the problem is bad. It is not immediate what follows after the first move, mainly that happens if Black recaptures. For sure many of the solvers are simply guessing, this problem should be rated like ~1700 at least. I would suggest extending the problem as in this line :

1...Qd6 2.Bxf6 Qxf6 3.Qxf6 gxf6 4.Nd7 Rbc8 5.Nxf6+

N9NE

Let's not make a mountain out of a molehill.

RetGuvvie's posts were fine. In fact, if I were RedStateGreen I would be thankful for such a detailed reply.

Let's all move on and play some chess.

For the record, I have now extended the solution of this problem with ...gxf6 Qg4+ Kf8 Nd7+ Ke7 Nxb8 (I've also put a couple of relevant variations in the analysis). It might have been nice to extend with the ...Qxf6 Qxf6 gxf6 variation instead, but then Nxc6 Rb6 Ncxd4 also turns out to be very strong (my computer even prefers it to Nd7, which seems a bit eccentric, but there you go).

The problem wasn't great in its original form, it's true, but RetGuvvie is a good guy--this was simply a misunderstanding rather than anything more sinister, I'm sure.

Narz, if you are speaking about the user, I presume you can say "he" and if you are speaking about the person behind the user, than it's definitively a "she". I might be wrong, my english is not so good.

You don't need to explain yourself to me, I was not criticizing your style. I merely thought it was the job of a 'tactics moderator' to answer questions like this. If it is not, and it is to 'approve' tactics then ignore anything I said that presupposed this.

Don't tell me you saw the point of the tactic, though! You never saw 4.Nd7, which is clearly the move to find in this position.

Okay, cool. I personally think the 2...Qxf6 line is harder to find, but it's your choice. I don't see why on Earth your computer would prefer 4.Nxc6 to 4.Nd7, though. It is clear to me that 4.Nd7 is stronger so I would not trust your computer.

Thanks also for taking the time to add the critical lines. These two steps should clear up any confusion.

BTW, you missed two white pawns in the new puzzle (f2,a2), which kind of makes it no longer such a clear win for white.

I have ran into a couple of staff on this site that are nasty to members. I just remind them of their attitudes and that usually keeps them in check but what really bothers me are the brown nosers who are quick to run to the aid of the hired help. Anyone who says that they have never seen a staff member make a negative comment on this site are full of it.

Yeah, yeah, we all know you are the greatest ICC fan in the world and that you really hate it here, but you stay anyway just to troll the forums!

BORING!

I've never heard the words "woot," or "wooting" before, but I do like them.

Ok, that's just rude period (though probably intended as a joke).

BTW everyone, RedStateGreen is female, so stop calling her "he".

 Oh I see...

"Huh," Popinjay said awaking from her slumber, "what did somebody say something."

"Yes it's me my precious, gollum, gollum." Evil Homer said rubbing his little blue crown that dangled around his neck.

Thanks Ray very kind and I must say it's an honour to receive this prestigous award especially when the competition was so great!  I'd like to thank Jesus, my manager and runner up Bono for being such a great sport.

The tone of the moderator from his writing is certainly not a friendly one, believe you me I know.

Instead of saying: " what part do you not get", which is both condescending and provocative, a more sensitive person would say for instance:how can I help you?,have you tried to click to "show source and analysis? etc.."

Can you tell me what you did so I can guide you?

Now that would be some real help!

A person that asks for help or suggestions, even if not worded clearly should indicate to the moderator at least 3 things, the person wants to improve, wants to understand and is not at the level of the moderator, otherwise no questions would be asked.

Now the moderator needs some communicative skills to decipher the question.

Are you serious!!! If somebody says to me "I don't get this." suddenly it is rude and provocative to ask "What part don't you get."

It's times like this that I respect Bobby Fisher for not caring what the #$^& people thought about what he did.

lastwarrior2010

I also have found him to be quite annoying, and not very helpful.

If this is a legitimate question, I'll answer it since nobody else has:

In English, if one is referring to a concept rather than a person, one should use the pronoun "it." However, it is conventional to refer to online users as people, not just concepts, since they are the digital manifestations of people.

In short, a female user is a "she."

Did you read what he actually wrote?  He did ask if she'd looked at the source and analysis, and did invite her to ask anything not covered.  He also asked what she didn't get, which seems to me more of an essential precursor to giving assistance rather than a rude question.

Some people are just too sensitive to imagined slights.  Anyway, we should show some consideration for his mental issues.
