Is this normal?

For it to take hours, and HOURS to empty the cache? It usually just takes a few minutes. What's wrong?

What are you talking about? Clearing the browser cache? I can't believe it should take more than a few seconds, let alone minutes or hours.

 That's what I'm talking about. The damn thing just keeps going, and going, and GOING!

Re-boot first, then consider other options.

I removed that damn Chess.com toolbar. Dozens of those little black screens kept multiplying all over the place every time I tried to log on or navigate to a different site! Often they the appeared out of nowhere completely unprovoked.
